Astral Projection are the true originators of the world wide psytrance sound. They are Avi Nissim and Lior Perlmutter.

Lior and Avi first teamed up in 1989. Avi was well known for his dj'ing, mainly in the acid scene. They created their first group, "SFX" with Yaniv Haviv and Guy Sebbag, playing gigs in underground clubs around Israel and made their first breakthrough in 1991 with their single Monster Mania, with the Begian Label, Music Man, and carried on working on and album of their own, basing themselves in New York.


Avi spent a short time there then went back home to carry on developing his own music, while Lior stayed and worked in the studio, re-mixing and producing. In 1992 they put out four singles under the X-Rave Records label in the USA.

In 1993 while Lior was still in the USA Avi teamed up again with Yaniv and Guy and re-formed SFX. Lior returned in early 1994, and together they started work on their debut album, Trust In Trance Vol. 1. The album met with great success, and they started to perform live around the country.



They opened their own professional sound studio in 1995. They also gigged widely in Europe (England, France, Germany and Holland) in parallel with working on their second album Trust in Trance Vol 2. At this stage Guy left the band and Yaniv, Avi and Lior together recorded as Astral Projection on this album.

Trust in Trance Vol 2. entered the Israeli album chart at no. 2. Both albums became very popular all over Europe and in Goa and were played by all the psychedelic techno and trance dj's. Paul Oakenfold and Danny Rampling placed the "Power Gen" track from this album, in their individual hype charts for a long period.

Both albums were released as a double cd in Scandinavia, and many of their tracks were released as singles and on compilatations with worldwide record companies including: Fairway, Transient, BMG, Distance, TIP, Blue Room Released, Rumour, Perfecto, Symbiosis, MCA, Euro Media, Vision Sound Carriers and others.

Their third album Astral Projection - Trust in Trance was their major break through into the European market. The leading UK music magazines reviewed this album as a masterpiece and Astral Projection were crowned as the kings of Psychedelic Trance.

The fourth Album Astral Projection - Astral Files was the first album released by Transient. It is an album where every track is a winner, combining apocalyptic trance pads and samples superimposed on top of wicked beats. This album received tremendous reviews in all the respected music magazines and many of the tracks became huge party hits.

Their next album Dancing Galaxy reinforced the band's legendary staus and is a trance classic.

Yaniv has left the group and between them Lior and Avi created another classic album Another World.
